Imagine yourself drifting down a lazy, shady stream, sun high in the sky, dragonflies darting in the breeze, not a care in the world. This is the sound of “Backwaters,” the new album of instrumental music by Mike Starling.

"Backwaters" is a suite of six loosely linked guitar ensemble pieces inspired by the natural beauty of the Upper Mississippi River Valley in the Driftless Region of the American Midwest.

Starling built these earthy and soulful soundscapes with a wide array of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitars, bass, organ, cuica, ocarina, didgeridoo, short wave, loops, bodhran, snare, and various hand percussion.
